Waking Basics: The Attitude of #GRATITUDE

Gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions. The more you express gratitude for what you have, the more likely you will have even more to express gratitude for.
— Zig Ziglar

A path to happiness, peace, and harmony is the practice of gratitude. It is virtually impossible to keep an angry or agitated mind when you appreciate what you have and are thankful for the small things. Do you know how lucky you are?

Can you walk? See?

Can you provide for yourself? For others?

Do you have an education? An opportunity to get one?

Can you reach out to a friend? Family?

How is your health? Is it good? Can you improve it?

Do you have access to clean water? Fresh air? Healthy food?

Can you stay warm in the winter? Cool in the summer?

If you want a coffee at Starbucks, can you just go get it?

Many people on this earth that would answer no to a lot of these questions.

We are so fortunate and, often, we may not appreciate it. In general, our default mindsets tend to be negative. We can get jealous as we focus on what we don’t have and perhaps others do. We can get depressed thinking about what we perceive we want or need. We can get angry when we feel we have been wronged or mistreated. But these cynical thought patterns do nothing to improve our state of mind.

We possess the power to change our lives by changing our minds. We can create an attitude of GRATITUDE. All we need to do is to pay attention.

Perhaps, when you wake up tomorrow morning, you can think about all of the things you have going for you.

Have APPRECIATION for everything that is working in your life, for all the kind acts you have been shown.

Be THANKFUL for the fact that your hands work, your car starts, your dog came to greet you.

ACKNOWLEDGE your success, your courage, your personal growth or – at a minimum – your attempts to improve your life.

You have a precious human life, be GRATEFUL every day for the opportunity to live it.

Don’t get me wrong. We are all suffering. It is part of this human journey. And we have to address what ails us. But do we have to focus every moment of our life on what is messed up or amiss?

A daily practice of THANKFULNESS, an ATTITUDE of GRATITUDE, can lighten your heart and free your mind of a lot of negative self-talk. This creates space in your life for good fortune, hidden solutions and clarity to unfold. In this lighter mindset, you can explore different directions, other options – what it is you truly want to do next.

Try it. It takes commitment. It takes determination. But, with a little GRATITUDE, you can change your life, the lives of others and the world.
